Charge of The Law Brigade

 Email  Facebook  Tweet  Linked-in
This poem is a modification of my favorite poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’.After CLAT 2011,I  thought this was apt and finally got the time to modify it today.Hope you all enjoy it!

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward
All in the valley of CLAT
Rode the twenty four thousand.
‘Forward, the Law Brigade!
Charge for the comprehension!’ he said:
Into the valley of CLAT
Rode the twenty four thousand.

‘Forward the Law Brigade!’
Was there a student dismay’d?
Not tho’ NUJS knew
Someone had blunder’d:
Their’s not to argue why,
Their’s not to raise a cry,
Into the valley of death
Rode the twenty four thousand.

Logic to right of them,
Legal to left of them,
GK in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Strom’d at with shot and shell,
Boldy they rode and well,
Into the jaws of CLAT
Into the mouth of NLU’s
Rode the twenty four thousand.

Flash’d all their logic bare,
Flash’d all their legal knowledge bare,
Sabring the questions there,
Charging the time, while
All the parents wonder’d
Plunged in the legal-smoke
Right thro’ the battery of questions they broke;
Constitution and Contracts
Reel’d from the shock that broke
Shatter’d and sunder’d
Then they rode back, but not
Not the twenty four thousand

Logic to right of them,
Legal to left of them,
GK in front of them
Volley’d and thunder’d;
Strom’d at with shot and shell,
While student and pen fell,
they that had read so well
came thro’ the jaws of CLAT
Back from the mouth of NLU’s
All that was left of them
Left of the twenty four thousand

The rest will not let their energy fade
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder’d
Honour the charge they made!
Honor the law Brigade!
Noble twenty four thousand!
