SCBA calls for new elections on 14 December • Crowds, slogans, pamphlets banned

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has scheduled its new elections for 14 December, according to notifications on its noticeboard and Facebook page.

All campaigning is to stop by 4pm on 12 December, according to the published election code of conduct, and “candidates, his/her agents/supporters and members":

  • “shall not crowd the entrance of the Polling Stations”,
  • shall not “raise slogans at any time of entire election process”,
  • shall not “distribute any pamphlet or card throughout the election process”.

Outgoing SCBA president Dushyant Dave, who had resoundingly won re-election in 2015 after his first win in 2014 campaigning as a candidate who would reform the politics of the bar, would not be allowed to run again, under internal rules barring anyone from holding an SCBA executive office twice in a row.
