J Sagar Associates (JSA) advised global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group on its $32.8m buy of a 54.8 per cent stake in Chennai-based publishing and technical services company Newgen Knowledge Works, which was advised by Universal Legal.

JSA Chennai partner Aarthi Sivanandh and senior associates Bhavana Alexander and Dheeraj Mani acted for First Carlyle Ventures III.

Universal Legal partners Kavitha Vijay and Sameena Chatrapathy acted for Newgen.

Khaitan & Co Mumbai partner Aakash Choubey acted for existing investor Aureos South Asia Fund.

BMR Legal acted for existing investor Franklin Templeton Asset Management. A BMR spokesperson did not respond to Legally India’s query for names of the deal team.

Carlyle had earlier invested in Newgen in 2004 and exited its investment in 2011, reported Mint.
