Nuals Kochi and NLU Orissa climbed in the traditional college preferences of Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT) at the expense of RMLNLU Lucknow and CNLU Patna, while other CLAT preferences remained unchanged in the corrected university allotment list, with NLSIU Bangalore coming top followed by Nalsar Hyderabad, NUJS Kolkata, NLIU Bhopal and NLU Jodhpur.
Legally India has conducted a fresh analysis of “Super 30” ranks in CLAT 2012, based on the revised UAL released on Friday morning. The “Super 30” score for each law college is the average rank of the top 30 students allotted to each college, in order to account for the different intake sizes of law schools.
The law schools most preferred by candidates appearing for CLAT 2012 was NLSIU Bangalore again. Only three students in the top 58 CLAT ranks did not opt for the college - rank 11 and 35 opted for Nalsar, while rank 20 chose NUJS.
Last year five students within the NLSIU cut-off did not pick India’s oldest national law school. In 2010 only two students went against the established preference.
This year Nalsar was again the second-most preferred college with a Super 30 score of 70.2.
NUJS Kolkata came a clear third in preferences with a Super 30 of 116.4, followed by NLIU Bhopal and NLU Jodhpur that were close together with average ranks of the top 30 students of 185.2 and 198.2 respectively.
GNLU Gandhinagar this year was again sixth in preferences ahead of HNLU Raipur.
NUALS Kochi, however, jumped a rank this year to replace RMLNLU Lucknow that last year had climbed to the eighth spot.
The entry of NLU Cuttack Orissa in the list of CLAT law schools usurped CNLU Patna in eleventh place. NUSRL Ranchi at thirteenth place and NLUJA Assam Guwahati in fourteenth place were the two other new participants in CLAT 2012.
Five students went against the trend of Nalsar as a second choice. Ranks 66, 89 and 91 chose NUJS Kolkata despite scoring within Nalsar’s cut-offs, while rank 78 and 101 chose NLU Jodhpur.
Changes
In the initially published list that contained errors, those five students and the 89th-ranked were allotted NLIU Bhopal instead of NUJS Kolkata and NLU Jodhpur.
There was no change in the revised list of those who bucked the trend in NLSIU preferences. Rank 427 – Osho Donnie Ashok - who told Legally India on Tuesday that he was erroneously allotted an NUSRL Ranchi seat, whereas his cut-off marks guaranteed him a seat in GNLU Gandhinagar, was allotted GNLU in the revised list.

I don't think thats how it works!
i think we shud se the rank of 30th selected student of each college dat will given a clearer picture...... for instance ..
NLIU 30th student rank 261
NLUJ 30th student rank 247
also nuals is still behind rmnlu its just dat sum students, most of dem frm Kerela, who were ranked pretty high maybe bcoz dey only wanted NUALS nd no other college have choosen NUALS( north -South divide cant help it) but if we look at the cut off rank the picture seems to be clearer
NUALS 30th student rank 561
RMLNLU 30th student rank 531 (exact gap of 30)
if anyone needs still more clarification dey should look onto the concepts of mean, mode, median and range dat will make it clearer why Mean is not the correct method to calculate the preference...
and LI if u are also convinced by wat ive written do bring d necessary changes in ur article bcoz its an undeniable fact dat ppl especially students take ur such articles pretty seriously

And a generation of boys and girls join NLIU Bhopal and Jodhpur knowing they were NALSAR and NUJS rejects.
And then these boys and girls will make their mark on history by writing on Legally India that my college is better than NLSIU. Losers!
Better quality students.
And why do the best students join NLS? Because of this 'false' sense of reputation.
NALSAR is way ahead of NLS in terms of infrastructure and matches it in recruitments and quality of the faculty.
NUJS is way ahead of NLS in terms of the quality of faculty and matches it in recruitments and infrastructure.
The fact is, NLS offers nothing over and above what NUJS and NALSAR have to offer.
Its self perpetuating, false myth; and will surely be demolished in the next few years.
NLS has done nothing of significance in the past few years. NLS rejects will soon become 'rejected NLS'.
Dude, at the end of the day, a brand is a brand. IIMs infrastructure may be no better than XYZ college. But its a brand. Thats why the best studs go there and thats what makes them the best. Ditto NLS.
I hear the grapes and mangos are sour this time of year. Hahahaha
Talking about fruits, actually, they don't get sweeter than this.
Tha ha!
Fill in the blanks quiz by Legally India. Winner gets a special seat in Kian Ganz's International Law School in Mumbai.
brilliant!
also, NALSAR or NUJS might have better infrastructure or faculty than NLS but does it make them better than NLS? no. this because NLS is the best because of its academic standards and its academic rigour.
talking about NALSAR's infra, i don't get what great about NALSAR's infra, its located in a fucking village, what will you do of that infra. plus, last i went to the NLS library i remember seeing some NALSARites who came to our library because NALSAR's library in their own words is way too creepy.
and NLS has done nothing significant in recent years? you really think so ? haha...i don't think there is even a point in this.
Fact number 2: PLACEMENTS: NLS-NUJS-NALSAR all have equally good placements; be it the top tier law firms or foreign law firms.
Fact number 3: ACADEMIC RIGOUR? NUJS' pedagogy was rated the best in India followed by Jindal by Lawyer's Update magazine.
NLS has done nothing significant over and above NALSAR/NUJS.
i think you need to see this mate-

Also, tell me how many rhodes scholars nalsar/nujs produced this year? NIL.
have a look in here though-

Also, placements at NLS are way better than NUJS and NALSAR in terms of quality. NLS is the preferred choice for all foreign firms which is reflected in the consistently higher foreign offers received by NLS students.

NLS is also the big daddy as far as debates are concerned.

And last of all, our massive and incredible alumni base. With people like Umakanth, Dayan Krishnan, V Niranjan, Vikram Raghavan and many more out there, there is not much to say, is there?
and that certain person (faculty) [...] I agree to that point entirely. But I do not agree on the point of VC. Prof. M.P. Singh did not ruin anything, rather he has done many things for NUJS a lot.
FT ranks ISB higher overall than all the IIMs. Only one IIM has a higher ranking in one prgrammme.
Plus Nalsar's infrastructure is better than all other colleges (though it is located in the middle of nowhere). NUJS despite starting off with the worst infra possible (did not have a campus for one and a half years) was able to make quick ground all thanks to Prof Madhava Menon and the hard work put in by the initial batches (eg Vienna champs and Jessup semis). Bhopal is lagging far behind despite having a head start and has been unsuccessful in attracting talent, both in terms of students and faculty from all across the country. Its sad but true that the bulk of the 33 students from the general category are primarily rejects of of the top 4 NLUs and the remaining have nowhere else to go.
Well written! To add to this, I would say that the lead NLS enjoys today is relatively low if you take into account the fact that it is about 10 years senior to NALSAR and NUJS. That will only get worse next year when the Karnataka quota kicks in.
similarly, NALSAR's lead over NUJS is slight given the vast differences in terms of money and infrastructure the former had. NUJS has really had to put in a lot more effort to reach where it is today, given the complete lack of any facilities it started off with. That goes to show just what a man Professor Madhava Menon was!
NLIU Bhopal is like the North Korean missile that never took off. The poor location and the state quota ensure it is a cesspool of rejects, however harsh that sounds.
NLU Jodhpur is IMO not really any better than Bhopal but the location (N India), lack of state quota and the anti-Bhopal factor mean that the student pool is better. The course and administration though is bollocks.
I am surprised that NUJS students did not take offence to that as that was relegating them from tier 1 to tier 3
And aren't we all touchy and running out this weekend to defend our alma maters?
Here's the deal. And we all need to be honest about this. As the no. of people taking the CLAT goes higher and higher every year, the difference in 'quality' of the top 200 odd rankers will be lesser and lesser. No, really. It already is. And smart people, be it employers, or foreign universities, will sooner or later wisen up to it. So much then, for the 'my wabooo strongest' rant routinely ushered in by losers across the spectrum.
Another thing is,for better or for worse, there's a noticeable increase in the no. of snobs getting through to law schools in recent years, and for the sake of all that is green and itchy, I hope every law school(and any fresher who might be reading this), does something about it. The one thing all law schools could do with, is bucketfuls of humility. Maybe we could start here.
For those who made it --- Yes, you made it. Congratulations. Sincere ones.
Now, could all of us please retain head on shoulders and not contribute any further to the (often deserved) tag of 'elitist-arrogant-irresponsible lawschoolite'?
Sincerely,
alum
ps. Braccae tuae aperiuntur
All those who will join NLUD, its kind of uncharted waters but I have a feeling it will soon be giving NUJS and Nalsar a run for its money (to know why ask some of the senior Nalsar students)
1. Foreign placements- NLS by far has the best foreign placements. Their foreign placements are always in double digits which means more than 1/8th of the batch every year). Nalsar has around 7 and NUJS around 5.
2. Domestic Placements- NLS again leads the race in terms of domestic placements. Nalsar enjoys the second spot amongst law firms with NUJS a fraction behind them. Amongst corporates its NUJS that has the best domestic placements.
3.Higher studies abroad- NLS again rules the roost. Nalsar, thanks to Ms Danda has been able to inculcate a good culture in academics and sees a good number of students going for higher studies. NUJS lags behind in this category. The 2013 batch luckily has been able to break the fascination with corp jobs and has a lot of students who wish have opted out of placements and are looking to go for higher studies, but I think that is all because of people such as Prof MP Singh, Shamnad Basheer (NLS), Prabhash Ranjan, Pritam Baruah and Saurabh (last two are students of Ms Danda- so I guess Nalsar and NLS deserves some credit for the change at NUJS:p).
Now if you compare the other colleges, NLU-J and NLIU they do not enjoy a standing in the legal franternity (especially abroad) which is at par with the top 3 resulting in the lesser opportunities being available to their students.
The cutoff list is not entirely correct. I know people who got 870 in General and are in RGNUL.. please make some corrections...
Thank you.
