The team from NLU Jodhpur comprising of Rohan Tigadi, Sanjana Srikumar and Sagar Gupta has won the South Asian Rounds Price Media Law Moot Court Competition, 2015 held at NLU Delhi from 20 to 23 November.
NLU-J bested Nalsar Hyderabad in the finals of the tier 3 moot.
Yashna Mehta from NLSIU Bangalore was adjudged as the best speaker of the competition while NLU Jodhpur took home the best memorial award.
NLU Jodhpur’s Tigadi commented that he was impressed with the moot’s organisation, accommodation, judging and transparency, which were all “top class”. “I particularly liked the fact that they gave individual accommodations to participants.”
Tigadi said that he was also impressed with the quality of judging. “I believe Price media is the only moot in India that provides you with a profile of judges. Some of the people who judged us were people I really looked up to. It was an honour to be judged by Geeta Hariharan (Jessup champion), Vrinda Bhandari (Rhodes scholar), Sourav Roy (Price media winner), Abhinav Sekhri , Willem Korthals Altes (appellate judge, The Netherlands) and Menaka Guruswamy during the course of our rounds. I do not think there is any other moot in India that can match the quality of judging in price media.”
Tigadi said he wasnted to also thank his coach and former teammate Vinayak Panikkar for their guidance, as well as previous NLU Delhi Price media moot winner Harshad Pathak.
NLU Delhi and NLSIU Bangalore were the other two semi finalists and NLSIU emerged as the winner in the international qualifier among these two semi finalists.
NLU Jodhpur has overtaken NLIU Bhopal in second place of the MPL after its performance, with only 11 points behind leader NLU Delhi.
Score subject to change after updating with other moots this season so far.
Last year’s NLU Delhi disqualification ratified
NLU Delhi has also been host to this moot for three years now.
Last year, the team from NLU Delhi was disqualified from the South Asia qualifying rounds after allegations of having gained an unfair advantage over other teams surfaced.
In an emailed statement, NLU Delhi wrote: “An internal three-member committee looked into the disqualification of the NLU Delhi team last year. It was of the view that the disqualification of that team was the proper course of action. The vice-chancellor agreed with the finding and decided that the measures taken were sufficient in the given circumstances.”

If you had, you might have seen that the judging claim is made by the winner, and the disqualification is mentioned at the end with a new comment from NLU Delhi.
If you had, you might have seen that I pointed to your failure to do a follow up story on the scandal of NLU Delhi rigging the moot.
Ranbir Singh made a scapegoat out of the team that was disqualified this year, because he didn't want NLUD to be stripped of it's title having had good performances in the moot in the previous two editions.
The real course of action should have been to strip the team that won the world rounds after gaining the unfair advantage of access to the research done by all the Indian teams.
Of course it's transparent. Glass houses seldom aren't.
This year, there were 12 teams.
Besides, the slot allocation of South Asian rounds of Henry Dunant at the HK Red Cross moot has increased from 2 to 4.
So, it is a very different moot now. Though I completely agree, unless there is a rulebook amendment, it would be unfair to award points for the same.
