NLSIU Bangalore crosses 100 MPL 3 points with Stetson South mooting success over VM Salgaocar

Current MPL toppers NLSIU Bangalore built its MPL lead after defeating V M Salgaocar Law College, Goa in the finals of the Stetson South India qualifying rounds.

NLSIU also won the best memorandum award and crossed the 100 mark in the league standings. The Bangalore based law school now enjoys a 36 point lead in the MPL 3 Standings over NLU Jodhpur, which won the Stetson North India qualifiers last week.

Ravi Raghunath from ILS Pune won the best speaker award in this Tier 3 moot. New Law College, Bharti Vidayapeeth University, Pune and SOEL Chennai finished semifinalists.

Vakasha Sachdev and Bhargavi Raman represented NLSIU as speakers, along with researcher Nidhisha Philip. Sachdev said that the team enjoyed winning the moot. “It was a good experience. The organisation was satisfying. Apart from one round in the prelims, the judging was excellent and up to the mark.”

Sachdev also mentioned that the NLSIU team was surprised to see Nalsar Hyderabad getting knocked out in the quarters. “We had intense competition with teams like Nalsar Hyderabad, ILS Pune, Symbiosis Pune, GLC Bombay and NLIU Bhopal participating in the moot. The quarterfinal round against ILS Pune was quite tight and was the toughest round we faced in the moot.”

Sachdev stated that the team would spend time on further research before the international rounds. “We will also approach our alumni V Niranjan for advice.”

In respect of NLSIU’s chances of winning the MPL 3 trophy at the end of the season, Sachdev said: “Right now, we are doing pretty well. There are many other moots to come, but we should hold on.”

The moot was organised by Surana & Surana International Attorneys in collaboration with the Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras. Dr G Rajasekar from University of Madras confirmed the results and said that that the moot was transparent and well organised. “15 teams participated in the competition and we received good feedback.”

As the Stetson India qualifying rounds come to an end, the focus would be on performance of the four teams (NLSIU Bangalore, VM Salgaocar, NLU Jodhpur and RMLNLU Lucknow) at the International rounds of the moot at Florida next year.
