Madras HC gets more than one ASG for the first time as senior advocates G Masilamani, 72 and P Wilson, 45 get appointed as ASGs to succeed senior advocate M Ravindran. Masilamani was South India’s first appointed ASG in 1997-98, while Wilson is the youngest ASG of south India [TOI]

Bombay HC raises Bombay city civil court’s pecuniary jurisdiction to Rs 1 crore with effect from 1 September. Suits valued less than that amount, currently pending in the HC will be transferred to the city civil court [Notification]

Baker & McKenzie emerges as largest international law firm yet again, posting record gross revenue of $2.313bn for the fiscal ending 30 June. This was $66m more than DLA Piper in second place. Baker’s profit per partner fell 9 per cent to a three-year low of $1.09 million, however, with the firm’s profit margin dropping 4 percentage points to 34 per cent [American Lawyer]

PCI wants to regulate electronic and social media, and also wants to be renamed “The Media Council”. The regulator says: “the claim of the broadcast media for self-regulation is futile and meaningless, because self-regulation is an oxymoron”. [TOI]
