Counsel to Secure Justice (CSJ)

Job description:

The Project Director leads the Improving Access to Criminal and Restorative Justice for Child Sexual Abuse Survivors Project team and has operational and management responsibility for achieving Project results. The position reports directly the Managing Director. The position is based in Delhi, India and requires little to no travel outside Delhi.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a large team, maintaining their overall focus, discipline and direction so they effectively achieve project objectives.
  • Manage Legal Interventions, Restorative Justice Interventions and Systems Change and Research Project components, including setting key result areas, monitoring progress and conducting performance reviews.
  • Oversee North Office team that manages administration, human resources and finance functions.
  • Safeguard integrity and good stewardship of finances for the Project, including overseeing the bookkeeping and accounting function and planning and managing the Project budget.
  • Ensure Project management and execution conforms with donor requirements and policies.
  • Build relationships with Ministers, high level police and judicial officials, non-profits, universities and other stakeholders to forge partnerships that further Project outcomes.
  • Forge an effective relationship with primary partner HAQ: Centre for Child Rights, communicating candidly, yet diplomatically, and instilling trust.
  • Participate in State and National multi-stakeholder meetings with key government and civil society stakeholders to advocate for stronger CSA law and justice systems.
  • Lead the Joint Project Management team that makes strategic and operational decisions impacting the Project.
  • Lead bi-annual project review meetings, participate in quarterly criminal justice system observation meetings and, as needed, casework meetings.
  • Serve on the System Change team to develop and implement advocacy programs that strengthen CSA law and justice systems.
  • Cultivate in each team member CSJ’s core values: character, compassion, commitment, competence and collaboration; organise trainings and greater levels of responsibility to develop their professional and leadership skills.
  • Ensure project team understands and strictly adheres to CSJ ethical guidelines when they represent clients and collaborate with government authorities and stakeholder partners.

Candidate requirements

  • Master in Development, Master of Laws or related degree

  • At least 8 years experience in human rights, preferably woman or child rights
  • Previous project management and planning experience with demonstrated ability to achieve defined results through a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to the poor and vulnerable sections of society
  • Ability to foster a collaborative spirit among the team and empower them to accomplish objectives
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software and database systems
  • Ability to analyse and solve complex problems; then make firm, timely and clear decisions based on analysis
  • Creative and innovative spirit when tackling problems or improving practices
  • Organised approach in work: setting priorities, delegating responsibilities and tracking progress
  • Excellent comprehension of written and spoken English and Hindi
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in challenging, sometimes hostile, environments
