NUJS' Guari Pillai (pictured) and Nuals' Mary Kavita Dominic win Rhodes 2016: Congratulations!NUJS' Guari Pillai (pictured) and Nuals' Mary Kavita Dominic win Rhodes 2016: Congratulations!

Nuals Kochi student Mary Kavita Dominic, NUJS Kolkata’s Gauri Pillai and NLSIU Bangalore's Vanshaj Jain have been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to study at a postgraduate course of their choice for a year in Oxford University, alongside two other non-law students.

Update 12:32: We have learned that NLSIU's Vanshaj Jain has also won the Rhodes this year.

Dominic is the first Nuals student to receive a Rhodes scholarship, and will be studying for the Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at Oxford.

Pillai is the third student from NUJS to have picked up the award, according to a post on Facebook by the college. An NUJS student last won a Rhodes in 2013, with Amba Kak.

According to a post on NLSIU's Facebook page, Jain is the 25th Rhodes scholar from NLSIU.

Last year, CLC Delhi University's Bahuli Sharma and NLU Delhi's Rishika Sahgal were awarded the Rhodes.

In 2014, starting at Oxford in 2015, NLSIU Bangalore’s Mansi Sood and Nalsar Hyderabad’s Sanya Samtani were the only lawyers to have won the Rhodes.

While incompetent VCs wreck these law schools, nice to see that that the students are still working hard and succeeding.

I have mixed feelings about this. It's wonderful that NUALS has a Rhodes scholar, but the continuing monopoly of NLSIU is unwarranted. [...]

Can't believe that my comment was censored! I said that a lot of great people from other NLUs were rejected in favour of less deserving people from NLSIU (without naming anybody). How is that offensive???

I agree with you.It is more idiotic than offensive. Your comment assumes that your objective assessment of the Rhodes applicants over the years is better than that of the selection committee. This is despite the massive disadvantage of not reviewing their applications or sitting in the interviews which the "lazy" selection committee would have done. If you want to pass off your grudges or misplaced gut feeling as a fair criticism of others in a public forum, at least don't try to defend it when someone calls it out.

Hey
I wish you meet Vanshaj sometime. The scholarship isn't unwarranted. He deserves every bit of it. :)

So Legally India posts a nice picture of the NUJS student with a logo, while the official website of NUJS is silent, with the "latest" news being some shitty award given by SILF in 2015.

NUJS admin really needs to get its act together. Even a village school has a better website.

NLSIU's website gives a warning of being unsafe when you try to visit it. I daresay the students therein still find it easy enough to go out in the world and do amazing stuff. So do those from NUJS, as evidenced by this.
p.s. I do agree about the comment on the admin though, but the last sentence is a tad spiteful. In either case, the SJA initiative is a rather promising one.
