The upcoming Maharastra National Law University (MNLU) Mumbai, has reportedly appointed its first vice chancellor, according to the Times of India.
The paper reported that Bhavani Prasad Panda, a Berhampur University law professor, “has written at least five books on human rights, environment law and disaster management”, and said that the college would live up to expectations.
SSRN lists one paper co-written by Panda with the title “Protection of the Elderly Consumers: Issues and Challenges”.
After years of political and regional infighting between Nagpur, Aurangabad and Mumbai, the state government eventually gave the green light to three national law schools in the state earlier this year, after being unable to decide on a single city location, as has been the case in nearly all other states with national law schools so far.
While chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had reportedly promised that the Mumbai and Aurangabad NLUs would start in June 2014, NLU Nagpur would take at least until June 2015, according to Nagpur Today in May.
However, DNA reported around the same time that despite a Rs 125 crore budget allocation none of the colleges would take admissions before 2015, since none had registered for the Common Law Admissions Test (CLAT).

A NUJS FAN
So if NLU Mumbai's admin is ineffective and the government insists on meddling and muddling it up, NLU Mumbai could end up being a massive waste of space despite its birthright.
Let's see how it goes :)
MNLU will rock and how!!
It has opened its first Law University by constructing a building on the play ground of Ismail Yusuf College. If Maharashtra Government want to open Lawe University, it should open it on Indu Mill Land, where Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial is planned. It would be a befitting honour to architect of Indian Constitution, by opening single Law University of Maharashtra State, on Indu Mill Land. This university will have Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Indian Constitutional Law Research Centre on this Indu Mill Land, which will be the right tribute to doyan of law, Dr. Ambedkar.
Constructing huge statue of Dr. Ambedkar, and a park is not a use of this vast Indu Mill Land in his honour. Please do as I have stated above.
