Seven law firms have made 24 offers to NLU Delhi students by its Day Zero of 2018 recruitments on Saturday, 1 April, with 20 NLU Delhi students having now bagged jobs upon graduation.
Six of the jobs were pre-placement offers (PPOs), which were awarded by Khaitan & Co, Talwar Thakore & Associates and S&R Associates after students’ internships at the firms before Day Zero.
On the 1 April Day Zero, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas led the charge, with five accepted job offers to students.
Trilegal, in addition to its one PPO, made four accepted offers on Day Zero interviews; Luthra & Luthra made two accepted offers.
Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas made two Day Zero offers, with Khaitan making one (in addition to its one PPO).
Furthermore, foreign law firms Linklaters, Allen & Overy and Herbert Smith Freehills have each offered one vacation scheme to NLU Delhi students. Those are akin to an advanced internship and interview, and have a decent chance of eventually converting into a job offer at a foreign firm.
The total batch size is 42 students, confirmed the NLU Delhi recruitment coordination committee, which consists of Siddharth Gupta, Anveshna Chainwala, Kudrat Agarwal, Anushka Sachdev and Kartik Jain.
NLIU Bhopal is also understood to have had its Day Zero already this year (if you are from NLIU’s RCC, please do reach out to us).

Context & analysis
This year’s 20 accepted job offers at NLU Delhi are an improvement even on last year’s impressive 16 job offers on Day Zero at NLU Delhi.
That said, NLU Delhi’s Day Zero figures this year are still slightly lower than NLSIU’s Day Zero figures of 2016 (30 accepted offers), or NUJS Kolkata last year (43), or NLU Jodhpur (25).
However, Day Zero is only a snapshot - for the next 12+ months students will continue getting jobs at law firms and elsewhere with many national law schools aiming to place 100% of their batch (though some of the younger ones, in particular, often having a harder time of it).
NLU Delhi’s 2018 tally so far is comparable to last year’s figures of GNLU Gandhinagar, NLIU Bhopal.
