NLIU Bhopal’s 2016 batch’s first day of recruitment, held on Friday 3 April, bagged at least 22 accepted job offers from five recruiters, according to information Legally India obtained from law firms and sources with knowledge of recruitments.
Khaitan & Co and Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai again emerged as the largest recruiters, each respectively hiring six and seven from NLIU, including respectively two and four pre-placement offers (PPOs) made after internships at each firm.
Trilegal hired four, while ICICI hired three.
J Sagar Associates (JSA) is understood to have made its first national law school campus appearance to hire 2016 graduates, picking up two from NLIU.
The total batch strength is around 85, with 45 students participating in the activities of the placement coordination committee (PCC).
In 2013 NLIU Bhopal had initially struggled to place its students with a much-delayed Day Zero in August, ultimately resulting in 38 out of 81 graduates being placed.
The law school did not disclose Day Zero figures in 2014 and continued its policy this year, with PCC members declining to confirm or deny figures.
NLIU’s faculty recruitment coordinator, Dr Raka Arya, did not respond to repeated calls and a message seeking comment.
Recruitment season in full swing
NLIU Bhopal was the third national law school to have invited recruiters to hire fourth-years to start in 2016, following NLU Delhi (20 jobs) and NLSIU Bangalore (33 jobs) on 1 and 2 April respectively.
Khaitan, buoyant on a fresher pay bump to Rs 16.2 lakh including a guaranteed annual bonus, has already hired 19 students to start in 2016, making the firm the single largest 2016 recruiter so far.
Its tally is only matched if combining the hires by Amarchand Mangaldas Mumbai and Delhi offices together.
Amarchand Mumbai, has hired more than 14 students to start in 2016 so far, compared to six by Amarchand Delhi; the two offices are in the midst of a long-running mediation that is likely to result in a break up of the firm in two by month-end.
Trilegal has hired 10 students, followed by nine at Luthra & Luthra, and eight at AZB & Partners.
Correction: Khaitan & Co hired six from NLIU Bhopal, not 7 as originally reported.

NLIU (!), being the kind of college as we know, has also managed to scrap more jobs than NLU-Delhi! My goodness.
NLU-Delhi's publicity stunt just went SO horribly wrong!
1. It's not a 'publicity stunt' if NLU Delhi, first college to hold its Day Zero, discloses its figures to us. It's called transparency.
2. NLU Delhi's figures are DOUBLE of what they were the previous year. That's an achievement in itself and I'm not sure why it needs to be belittled or why they should not be happy with their figures.
There seem to be a lot more jobs going around this year, which should be good news for everyone involved, rather than having to degenerate into incessant sniping.
People might think that I enjoy and encourage these sorts of trolly comments for 'TRPs' or however they think LI operates, but really, I thought we were over these, frankly childish, discussions of 'my college is better than your college which sucks' several years ago...
Anyway, my 2 cents. Peace.
And before more sniping continues, congratulations NLU D, NLSIU and NLIU! Looking forward to many more strong Day Zero results in the coming days and weeks! :)
How much they pay you for writing this :P
Looks like they are pretty much done
What makes me wonder though is, does Khaitan actually have that much work to go around for everyone?
Why doesn't NLU-Delhi consider of putting an advertisement on Legally India? I mean, considering LI has become a good publicity forum for NLU-D? ;) Doubling from 10 to 20 is easy. But we'll talk when 20 becomes 40. That's an achievement, this really isn't.
NLIU must be congratulated. It still remains the 3rd/4th best college in the country on the placement aspect, leaving NLU-Delhi way behind.
NLIU - 22 jobs, including 3 ICICI jobs (duh), and no Vac Schemes.
NLUD - 24 jobs, including 4 Vac Schemes
Evaluate who is ahead.
As for achievement, I believe even NLS has never managed 40 on a Day Zero, which you seem to have made the test of achievement... :P
And, when the markets were in the dumps, NLS managed 24 in 2013 ( www.legallyindia.com/201305073654/Law-schools/nlsiu-day-zero-22-jobs-six-internships-for-50-interested-students-out-of-80 ).
NLU Jodhpur did 11 and 12 in 2013 / 2014 ( www.legallyindia.com/201305073654/Law-schools/nlsiu-day-zero-22-jobs-six-internships-for-50-interested-students-out-of-80 / www.legallyindia.com/201404164607/Law-schools/12-day-zero-offers-for-nlu-jodhpur ).
NUJS did 26 in 2014 ( www.legallyindia.com/201404184618/Law-schools/nujs-2015-day-zero-27-accepted-jobs-5-foreign-firm-opportunities )
GNLU did 13 in 2014 ( www.legallyindia.com/201404304660/Law-schools/gnlu-rsquo-s-secret-day-zero ).
Nalsar has been 29 / 28 the last two years. Here are a few more Day Zero stories if interested: www.legallyindia.com/tag/day-zero (pre 2013 is in www.legallyindia.com/tag/campus-recruitment mixed in with final tallies).
None of these figures are a mile away from 20, really.
Looking forward to NUJS, since they've claimed 16 PPOs in some earlier thread already. Can someone please confirm when NUJS Day Zero is? And what about Jodhpur and Nalsar?
NALSAR: April 11, 2015
NUJS: April 17, 2015
Please also remind me what atrocity I've committed on NUJS recently?
Kian, you gotta do a story on this. Prove that you don't hate NUJS! :p
22 v. 20? thats way behind is it? idiot?
What did we do?
God help your ignorance!
I'm also not sure if they have refused to go to any of those places. Would have to check with them on Monday.
1. They might still visit some of these colleges - Day Zero is just the start.
2. They might offer PPOs for students from some of these.
That'll be a huge slap on those trying to malign NLUDelhi. Kian, you gotta confirm this.
Now, THIS is interesting!
Kian, please confirm this. It's rather very interesting, if it has actually refused to go to NUJS and NALSAR as well!
Please understand the difference.
But this is disastrous if JSA doesn't go to any of these colleges. Not everybody wants to go to slaughterhouses, such as AMSS, AZB, Khaitan etc.
Kian, could you please check up on this?
I completely understand that you want the news to be out first on LI..but, wouldn't it be better if you post only what you are 100% sure of?
First, the Khaitan 16.2L story went wrong..and now, this?
Few stories in news journalism can ever be 100% accurate or contain everything you want them to, and you need to take a call sometimes on how long it's worth waiting for something.
In the case of NLIU figures, we could have waited till August (literally) until we'd have heard something from NLIU. However, the news value of the first few Day Zeros gets old quite fast, and I took a call that it'd be more useful to everyone involved to publish the information that we had that we were reasonably confident of being accurate rather than delay indefinitely.
Khaitan story I've explained. Shit happens sometimes. But we try to be transparent when errors do happen and to correct them promptly.
Best wishes,
Kian
Just like that infamous power recruitment rankings, or even the NLU-Delhi Day Zero story. The one, where you have concluded that NLUD is making a strong headway into Top 3. No. That's blatantly wrong!
(I lol'd :)
It's hard to believe an anonymous comment, such as above, otherwise.
I have a question for you. The comments on various threads - are they reviewed by you personally or do you have minions for that? If you do have minions for that, then how many? We are just trying to figure out how many people work at Legally India.
Wish business was good enough so we could afford minions :)
Cheers
Kian
Seriously though, how is that a diss? Clearly no one cared or knew to mention it in the comments so far, and the threat I'm commenting on is 4 days old or something now...
Chillax yo... :)
