A female student from OP Jindal University in Sonipat has filed a criminal complaint of rape against three law students of Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), which is part of the same university, DNA reported.
She alleged that since August 2013 one student had blackmailed her into having sexual intercourse with him because he would leak nude photographs of her if she complained to the authorities.
According to DNA she filed a police complaint on Saturday evening shortly after having made a complaint to the college’s sexual harassment committee, after the original alleged blackmailer allegedly forced her to have sex with two other male law students.
In an emailed statement, the university said:
On 11 April 2015 morning (Saturday), a female student of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) complained to university authorities of a serious violation by several male students. Victim and her parents were given all emotional and psychological support by JGU.
Subsequently, an emergency meeting of the Sexual Harassment Committee and Student Disciplinary Committee was held. Based on available evidence and after conducting inquiry, the Committee recommended the expulsion of three students and suspension of two students.
The students have been asked to leave campus with immediate effect.
JGU has a zero tolerance for ragging, sexual harassment, use of narcotic drugs and physical Violence.
JGU is fully cooperating with the Sonipat District Police authorities with regard to investigation in this matter.
Registrar YSR Murthy told DNA that two other students also allegedly possessed the photographs:
The girl came to us in the morning and named five students in the complaint. The main accused was immediately brought in front of the administration and his mobile phone and laptop were confiscated to prevent further dissemination of the photographs. He was later expelled, and based on the complaint, four other students were suspended.
This is an extremely unfortunate incident and we will ensure that the culprits will get punished. We have told the girl student that she can rejoin the university and continue with her education whenever she wants. She was traumatised but we are sure she will fight back.

Moreover, if respected journalists could allegedly have raped or sexualky assaulted someone, then even the most hard working student could do the same. University needs to increase awareness ten fold.
I agree with you. In our country, it is not about educated or uneducated. ANYONE could rape. I guess, considering the girl, there are many who do not report rapes. Uneducated are not aware of the laws and fear backlash from the community. On the other hand, an educated person fears due to "izzat" in the society. Hats off to those who fight rapists. Not to say, some girls do complain due to personal grudges and issues. But I guess that is a very small number. I doubt a girl from JGLS and good family (I guess from Delhi) would complain and put her career and family name at jeopardy complaining about it. If it was revenge it could have been a complaint against ONLY THE ex-bf, but NOT gang rape! I think she and other women of the society who face the same need to be supported. Only we guys can help them get justice. If there are other guys who commit such horrendous acts, we other guys need to protect the girls and their freedom and happiness. This time is not about due process of law, it is about support! Didn't we people agree at some time if Kasab was guilty why should we follow due process? Apart from terrorism, another evil we need to fight is violence against women. Lets not all argue about law but offer our support to the accused and assume she has not complained for the heck of it rather than assuming otherwise. No one is a hero here talking and arguing law anonymously or trying for a big job. For a change, let humanity prevail....

This is quite obviously a troll. Don't you think your team should have exercised their discretion and not posted such a comment here given the sensitivity of the issue? Even freedom of speech has his limitations!
No...there are many trolls LI cannot keep a check on. Trolls.. well... Either a troll suppporting the acused.. is in fat "THE ACCUSED" or having a mindset as such. Let them post and see the replies and backlashes. Not an effective way to teach, but a small step towards ending violence aginst women I guess :/
I do not think the admin can do much. If you clear the exams and you are willing to pay, the college will accept you. I doubt JGLS or any other college for that matter can do a background check on every student.

Yes this is wierd. There is something missing. Either she was a 3rd year student who faced all this since her first year, and complained now (in her 3rd year) or has been facing it since before joining Jindal University (which seems unlikely). This needs to be confirmed.
So much for being a legal community, there are so many things that could have happened for all you may know it might be a relationship gone bad, or something else. But presumption of innocence, and everything else is thrown out of the window and the case is sensationalized. Is it too much to ask to wait for investigations to proceed rather than pass a judgment already. After all we at the end of the day are lawyers/law students and this is the least that can be expected of us.
I would request Legally India to remove this article as it unfairly harms the reputation of Jindal and the students. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

In the same article there is a link reporting multiple rapes by JNU students. Why did Kian not report the JNU rapes?

"In the same article there is a link reporting multiple rapes by JNU students. Why did Kian not report the JNU rapes?"
Well, perhaps because this is a law school news story and thus especially relevant to this website.
Do you want this website to report on ALL rapes in India?
Therefore this is certainly valid "news".
I simply wonder where in your moral and value system you can justify the demand to suppress this news. The demands for censorship on this website by lawyers amaze me.
Also, it might be that the law school found incriminating material on the laptops and phones seized. That's the impression conveyed from the emails and from the law school's action of expelling the students. The law school would not have taken this step unless there was some evidence over and above the complainant's statement.
You were the defence counsel for the 16th December Delhi incident, right? Your questions are of the same ilk, preposterous.
Good argument. But it has been widely reported elsewhere and the college issued a statement too. So you are wrong here. Chill..it will not affect your placements. Some persons fault does not affect others. This is an off incident at Jindal, unlike regular shit at other NLU's.
While I realize image of university is very important for not just the authorities but for us too, I do feel that the original issue might get (or is?) overlooked in the pursuit of a 'good image'.
I too request Kian to obtain a copy if possible.
Ya Kian ;)
"DNA is not trustworthy, please stop reporting about the rape which took place in our law school". Sure.
Trust people from haryana to rape.
Sometimes, stereotypes save time ad effort, really.

By comic Sarah Silverman (not really directly quoting but the essence should be there)-
Rape jokes are a comedian's dream. No seriously, nobody complains about rape jokes. Who's going to complain a rape joke? The rape victim? They can't even report rape!
Let's say someone in the audience subjected to rape before comes up to me after the show where I make a rape joke and tells me, "hey, I just wanted to tell you that the joke you made was very inappropriate and insensitive. It was very offensive....and I am so so SORRY, it's MY fault.
-----
So guys, don't forget, just the bureaucracy and the painful procedure and litigation surrounding a rape including character assassination and stigma and humiliation is reason enough for someone to not report (falsely or correctly). Therefore, we just laud the courage of every person who reports rape and pray that it becomes commonplace.
Forget the alleged incident. This is a campus where accommodations are not co-eduational. [On a public campus, accommodations should ideally be the only place where someone can do something clandestine on a residential campus. You need to secure all the other public areas].
So if there was someone who was sexually abusing someone else (of a different gender) on campus for 2 years and the University Administration did nothing about it, one can rationally conclude that the institution is at fault. The Bar Council should strip them of their affiliation. Enough of these Law College Diploma Mills sprouting around the country.
You cannot be a residential university and not exercise a duty of care in relation to your students. If this alleged incident is proven to be true, a natural consequence of the same should be JGLS losing its Bar Council Affiliation (Grandfathered so that it doesn't affect current students) .
