Zeus promotes partner, two associates

Zeus Law Associates has promoted managing associate Suresh Dobhal to partner in its corporate litigation practice and has made two other internal promotions after its annual performance review.

Senior associate Jayshree Navin Chandra has been promoted as managing associate in the corporate law practice and associate Lokesh Bhola has been made a senior associate in litigation.

Senior partner Sunil Tyagi said: "Suresh is going o be a salaried partner – next level is equity. Each year we have a performance review, but the general hierarchy is associate, senior associate, managing associate, salaried partner and equity partner."

"Minimum eligibility for promotion that we have set up is 2 years in a given role, but again this not a rigid rule and a lawyer with at least 4-6 years of experience is considered for the role of a managing associate," he explained.

Senior partners Vivek Kohli, Sunil Tyagi and then managing associate Suresh Dobhal left Chambers of Law to join managing partner Rohit Tandon in the formation of Zeus Law Associates in 2005.

Dobhal told Legally India: "I am a hard core corporate litigating lawyer, my plan is to take up matters for clients more aggressively and adopt an out of box approach for resolution of disputes  as one strategy cannot work for all cases and we need to be a step ahead of the other side, which is the key to success."

"Any dispute related to a corporate house is a part of corporate litigation, if a company commits a white collar crime, it will seek to defend itself," he added. [Correction: We have clarified this quote, which was not clear out of context earlier]

Dobhal said that he will focus on broadening his base in his new role. "I'll have to now devote a bigger part of my time to the management work of the firm and also get new clients."

The firm has also hired Sonam Sharma as a senior associate and Shohit Chaudhry as an associate in the litigation team under newly promoted partner Suresh Dobhal.

Sonam Sharma completed his LLM from the University of Manchester in 2009, prior to which he was with law firm Pradeep Sharma & Co in Faridabad.

National Law University of Jodhpur graduate Chaudhry, who is now an associate with Zeus had earlier worked with Delhi High Court lawyer after interning from Zeus in December 2007.

An LLM degree holder from Delhi University Jayshree Chandra has also been a part of the core team of the firm since 2005. She commented: "I have been handling corporate and commercial transactions work for the firm. I'll be responsible for five to six associates and senior associates along with the partners. Apart from client dealings, I'll also be looking at managing the team and keeping them motivated."
