PSA Legal partner Neeraj Dubey joined Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS) as a joint partner in the Bangalore office on Thursday. He will head Bangalore’s corporate practice.
The Delhi University 2004 alum was with PSA for seven years after a stint at Seth Dua Associates and a secondment at Baxter.
He said that the firm had been focussing exclusively on litigation in Bangalore until his joining.
LKS Bangalore head B Shivadass said: “As far as Bangalore is concerned we have had clients asking us whether [we] would do corporate work for [them] also. So we did start a small group of two-three people for corporate work. We thought we will add an experienced hand as well.”
He said that the corporate team in Bangalore now has five lawyers, including Dubey.
A PSA spokesperson said: “We wish Neeraj all the best.”
Khare Legal Chambers partner Abir Roy joined LKS as a joint partner in its Delhi competition practice on 2 January.

1.Dead woods are plenty in top firms. It is easy to identify as the firms would have promoted them at very low pace. The firms wouldn't throw them away as they have spent donkeys years and would've developed some mediocre skills.
2. Beware of one day Maharajas. They would have gotten into a top firm (by luck or fluke) and couldn't have survived for more than a year or two. These Maharajas use this brand period for the rest of their career to get into growing firms or tier 2 firms at a relatively higher position but at the end they are equivalent to dead wood.
3. Last but not the least, be cautious and double check, while recruiting from branch offices of top firms where the top firms don't have any business or have failed to grow at all. For ex : AMSS in Chennai or Kolkata, Khaitan in Delhi, Luthra in Blore.
Rain, rain and rainmaker's policy:
Lks should be AWARE about this policy as they are always looking at rainmakers in the areas they want to grow big. They have miserably failed to recognize this policy and ended up with huge drought for the obvious reasons.RAINMAKERS are available only at a very high premium n seek independence in their functioning. Ego is usually their best friend. They always seek vertical growth and never settle for a lower position. For ex : Partner to Joint/associate partner. And they never say yes to YES BOSS policy. We all the know the above traits don't fit in well with Lks style of functioning. Unless there is a change within the firm, please drop the hope for Rainmakers.
The above advice is absolutely free. You may accept or reject it. If rejected, you will end up paying 1cr or 2cr for the same advice from Boston consulting or McKenzie after few failed years. Now, the choice is yours.
I'm sure he has his work cut out considering that the BANGALORE corporate team has very professional and experienced lawyers.
Who does he report to ?
Also, the fact that LKS is going full service is in itself big. If they can provide an output with the corporate practice the way they have with their tax, the firm will reach heights.
I do not see any contradiction in the story. Both Neeraj and Bangalore partner are saying the same thing that Mr. Dubey has joined as an experienced hand to the Bangalore corporate team.
VS: your comment is too bad and unhealthy. I don't know whether you are jealous of Mr. Dubey or stupid enough to advise LKS owners about their hiring.
Joint partner as a designation is not different from Associate/Additional/Salaried partner. If one has basic understanding of designations in India, one can easily understand that a Joint Partner is something one step below a full partner. A joint secretary in the Govt. or joint MD in a company are only next to the Secretary or MD.
Great show by Neeraj Dubey! Wish he rocks LKS B'lore too like his past organisations!
