New Mumbai office for Hariani & Co

Hariani & Co has moved into a new office almost twice the previous size in Mumbai offering, after one of its partners relocated from Bangalore.

The firm has entered into a long-term lease for 6,000 square feet premises on Homi Mody street in Mumbai's Fort / Kala Goda area. The new office is only several minutes walk from its previous office of 2,500 square feet.

Managing partner Ameet Hariani (pictured) said: "With the amount of litigation work that we do it was impractical to move far away from the High Court.

"Expanding the firm in terms of workforce meant a bigger office space, and that too one which should have been in close proximity to the High Court," he added. "We did extensive research and groundwork and found a heritage building with just the perfect amount of space. It was a perfect fit.”

Partner and office manager Madhavi Hariani was responsible for the refurbishment of the location from scratch, which took a total of four months and was completed two months ago.

"We want to expand in a big way," she said explaining that the Mumbai office of the firm was currently 60 to 70 lawyers strong. In the new office each of the nine partners would now be able to have their own office space.

She added that it was very important that the new office also included a coffee shop area for staff to get away from their desks during working hours.

Hariani & Co has further offices in Pune, Goa and Bangalore.

Its only Bangalore partner Siddharth Hariani relocated to the firm's Mumbai office late last year for personal reasons with a team of three associates.

This has left Bangalore without a permanent locally-based partner and Hariani & Co has been seeking a full-time local partner replacement in the city. "We are hoping to revive it soon," said Madhavi Hariani.

The Pune office consists of 15 to 20 lawyers and with three to four lawyers based in Goa. Those offices primarily handle litigation and conveyancing work, supported by Mumbai.

In Mumbai Hariani & Co mainly handles litigation, conveyancing and corporate work, with a small practice advising Bollywood production houses.

Other Mumbai firms to move late last year include Trilegal and Khaitan & Co, which moved North to the Lower Parel area, and Talwar Thakore Associates and SN Gupta & Co, which remained in the city's South.

Hariani & Co has moved into a new office in Mumbai offering more than twice as much space as one of its partners returns from Bangalore.
