Khaitan & Co legacy firm Khaitan Jayakar Sud and Vohra (KJSV) has inducted two salaried partners, promoting Tanuj Sud in Delhi and hiring Sudhakar Avadh as the partner in charge of its new Pune office while gearing up for further national expansion.

Sud has been promoted to become one of the KJSV's 10 salaried partners, shortly after having joined KJSV in January 2010 as a partner designate, before which he was a senior associate at Dua Associates.

"At that stage in life and time in career where this seemed like the most sensible move to me," he commented.

Independent practitioner Avadh has joined as the firm's Pune partner in April, to boost the firm's fifth Indian office in the city, which was opened a month ago and will focus on corporate work.

KSJV co-managing partner Umesh Khaitan said that the firm's plan was to provide pan India legal service to large corporates at various locations where the volume of defending cases is of a high order.

"We're trying to create a service model for [companies in the banking, insurance and FMGC sectors] and have developed an outsourcing model on this basis. Currently we're providing services to HLL and J&K bank - based on this experience of ours, we're trying to upscale the model.

"We're trying to open more and more offices so that our all-India strength grows and we're able to provide services to our clients at a very reasonable cost," he added.

The firm also has offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore, with four equity partners: co-managing partners Umesh Khaitan in Delhi and Mohan Jayakar in Mumbai, as well as partners Malini Sud and Ashutosh Khaitan in Delhi.

Umesh Khaitan told Legally India: "We have in place a very regulated HR policy and in the long term we're expecting to follow a principle that a lawyer working with us for a span of seven years will become a partner."

He also added that he would like to convert to a limited liability partnership (LLP) in future.

KJSV is a legacy Khaitan & Co firm which was founded in 1996.
