Fox Mandal Bangalore corporate partner Debanjan Bannerjee will join Juris Corp as a partner in its M&A and private equity practice, opening up an office in Bangalore for the firm.

Bannerjee said that in Bangalore the firm will focus on representing start-ups and their investors, while also “leveraging the distinctive strength of Juris Corp in structured finance”.

He did his LLB from Calcutta University in 1999 and joined Fox Mandal where he was made partner in April 2009. He also did his master’s in law and economics in 2006 from the Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam.

At Fox Mandal Bangalore he was a partner, alongside three other partners, in the corporate and M&A practice, which was headed by Bangalore founding partner Shuva Mandal.

Mandal commented: “[Bannerjee] wanted to look for an opportunity, a new organisation. We said, sure, if he has a better option.”

Bannerjee told Legally India that former Trilegal counsel Aninda Pal, who joined Juris Corp in December 2015, will also be joining him in Bangalore. He also confirmed that former Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas principal associate Abhinav Surana will join the Bangalore office as partner, as previously reported by Legally India.

Juris Corp  experienced a partner exodus with nine partners leaving the firm between early 2012 and December 2014. The firm now has seven partners including Bannerjee.

Juris Corp did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Update: Juris Corp co-founded H Jayesh said in an emailed statement: “Adding quality talent with niche specialization and subject matter expertise is an important part of our growth strategy. With Abhinav on board, our client servicing capabilities specially in the Private Equity domain are enhanced.

“This gives an impetus to our firm’s growth strategies.”
