J Sagar Associates (JSA) Delhi regulatory and policy salaried partner Nitin Kala, joined the Dubai headquarters of a subsidiary of Mumbai-founded tech company Directi, as first reported by Bar & Bench.

Kala had been promoted to JSA’s retained partnership in 2013, having joined in 2010 from erstwhile Fox Mandal Little, where he was a senior associate.

He joined Directi subsidiary media.net around two weeks ago as vice president legal and regulatory. It is understood that the parent group company Directi does not have an in-house legal team.

Directi was founded in 1998 by brothers Bhavin and Divyank Turakhia while they were teenagers. The subsidiary Media.net, which has products in the advertising technology space, meanwhile, was sold by the brothers to a Chinese consortium of investors for $900m in August 2016.

Kala is understood to be working directly with the two Turakhia brothers.

According to press reports, media.net will be eventually be merged into a Chinese company after completion of the acquisition.

Kala is a 2004 Delhi University LLB graduate, with a 2007 LLM from King’s College London. He declined to comment when contacted. We have also reached out to JSA for comment.

Nitin is involved in various aspects of Dispute Resolution including evaluation of contractual arrangements / regulatory and legal framework to facilitate compliance and advising clients on processes to avoid / mitigate risks in the conduct of business; providing strategic advice & opinions; drafting pleadings, briefing counsel; appearing and conducting matters – both on original and appellate stages.

Nitin is a qualified solicitor in United Kingdom and holds a Masters of Law degree from King’s College London in the field of International Corporate & Commercial Laws. He has also worked with British Institute of International and Comparative Law London in the field of Public International law, including Investor – State disputes under the Bilateral Investment Treaties and Multilateral Treaties / Instruments.

He has been advising companies in the Communications sector on diverse legal, Policy and Regulatory issues and has been representing them before TDSAT, as also the Supreme Court in various disputes. Nitin has been handling the 2G spectrum related matters for his clients before the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

He also advises on the entire gamut of Commercial, Legal, Policy, Compliance and Regulatory issues arising in the Indian Power sector – covering generation, transmission, distribution, supply and trading including sector reform / restructuring strategies. He advises and represents Power utilities (both publicly and privately owned); as also Regulatory Commissions.
