Bombay projects firm SJ Law gets Delhi office

Project finance boutique SJ Law opened up in Delhi in April, five years after former India Law Services partner Samir Jagad founded the firm in Mumbai.

The firm’s associate partner Natasha Landge, promoted to the designation four months ago, relocated to Delhi to head the new office. Three other Delhi lawyers working earlier in the firm’s head office in Mumbai relocated to the Delhi office while the firm hired one lawyer locally, she said.

She told Legally India that while the State Bank of India was a major existing client in Delhi, the firm would be looking to do business development in the city.

“We have to target the Delhi market. We cannot just keep looking at work coming from Bombay. For the work to get generated here it’ll take some time. We are like a small firm in a niche market, one will not find many project finance firms, it took us some time to build a market in Bombay and it will take similar time in Delhi. But I have been getting good feedback and with the elections everyone is quite happy with the way things are progressing,” commented Langde.

She said that the firm would retain its Mumbai fee structure for project finance clients in Delhi. Landge, who graduated from ILS Pune in 2006 and obtained an LLM in corporate law from Glasgow University’s law school in 2007, worked in the corporate team of Desai & Diwanji for two years before joining SJ Law. She also handles the firm’s corporate mandates.
