ALMT Legal has formed a best friends relationship with UK international firm Clyde & Co.

In a joint statement the firms said that they would share information, harmonise training and set in place an extensive secondment programme.

ALMT partner S R Arun (pictured) said: "We anticipate that we will have access to the markets where Clyde is and that not many of the large magic circle firms have got access to."

Some of Clyde & Co's more unusual office locations, compared to the UK magic circle, include places such as Caracas, Doha, Guildford, Nantes, Piraeus, Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco.

"Clyde is part of the niche practice of aviation and insurance, which is again something which is making headway in India," added Arun.

London was ALMT's first office in 2000 and is headed up by former Singhania & Co associate Shalini Agarwal. The firm's London office will remain physically separate from Clyde & Co's London presence.

ALMT opened in Mumbai the next year and in Bangalore in 2002. It currently has 98 fee-earners and around 15 partners.

Clyde & Co has 700 lawyer and 160 partners.

According to UK legal magazine The Lawyer, Clyde & Co has a turnover of £157m in the 2007-08 financial year, with average profits per equity partner of around £550,000.

Clyde & Co other offices include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Moscow, New York, Paris, Shanghai and Singapore.
