All India Bar Exam (AIBE) fees hiked 50% with new web portal; Application deadline: 25 October

AIBE: Now more expensive
AIBE: Now more expensive
Breaking: The Bar Council of India’s (BCI) new contractor has launched a standalone website for All India Bar Exam (AIBE) takers to register for the next exam that is scheduled for 25 November, with fees for the exam having been hiked by around 50 per cent to Rs 1,950 for first time examinees.

The site, accessible at www.allindiabarexamination.com as notified by the BCI, sets out the basic requirements of the AIBE and claims that candidates can register for the exam online by uploading a photograph, signature and supporting documents, after creating an account.

The deadline for applications is 25 October 2012, according to the site, but details for offline applications have not yet been published.

The application fees for first time AIBE takers are set out on the website as Rs 1,900 plus State Bank of India charges of Rs 50. Those who have registered for a previous AIBE and would like to retake the exam, would have to pay Rs 1,400 plus Rs 50 of bank charges.

For the last AIBE, the fees were only Rs 1,300 for first-timers and Rs 900 for repeat exam takers, which netted the BCI and Rainmaker around Rs 6.9 crore over three AIBEs, with around 70 per cent going to a private contractor.

Two senior BCI members did not respond to calls seeking comment or were not reachable for comment at the time of going to press.

The new website was built by ITES Horizon Pvt Ltd, which was selected by the BCI in September after ditching the previous contractor Rainmaker and eschewing other applicants under a tender.

ITES states on its website at www.iteshorizon.com: “We are ITES Horizon Private Limited, an organisation founded in 1999 well grounded in IT implementation and delivery for nearly 13 years. We have helped each client refine their requirements and ensured on-time delivery of cost effective value-for-money solutions. Our Approach : Understanding Client Perspective, their requirements vis-à-vis their areas of Business and Aspirations for Growth.”

“Our area of operation involves Website Designing Website Development, Automation of Office via Internet or Intranet, Financial Software Development, Inventory Management and also Graphic Designing including printing and publishing.”

The “projects” and “clients” sections on its website dealing with the company’s prior work were not accessible at the time of going to press.

Earlier this year the BCI passed a resolution allowing graduates who have not yet passed the AIBE to practice in courts for six months, provided they give an undertaking.
