The legal services marketplace.

Client Terms & Conditions (in plain English)

Although this is a contract between you and us under Indian law, it is a myth that contracts have to be complicated.

If you are a lawyer or other professional advisor (we'll call them "Advisors" from now on), please click here to read the terms that apply to you.

We are Legally Direct, the website you are currently visiting.

First off, let's be clear: we do not provide any legal advice

We are a place where you and other clients, without charge, can ask for help with legal problems; lawyers and other professional advisors (Advisors) can connect to you and bid for the work. You have to describe your case yourself, and you are aware that all details you supply (unless explicitly marked confidential), could be visible on the internet to others. If confidentiality is important to you, you are therefore responsible to describe your case in general terms that will not allow others to identify you.

Once your case is up, you will hopefully receive proposals from lawyers who are interested in helping you. You then examine the proposals you've received, perhaps talk to or email the Advisor, and pick whichever one you like best. At that point, you will hopefully enter into a lawyer-client relationship, which we are not involved in at all. You instruct the Advisor directly and pay them directly for their services.

We do try to carry out a basic check that the Advisor is who they say they are, but it will be up to you to figure out whether the lawyer seems trustworthy and reliable before you send your work their way.

(Judging whether someone will be a good lawyer to you is not actually that hard: make sure they a) don't confuse you with their language, b) are approachable and prompt in their communication, and c) sound reasonable in what they tell you and don't over-promise you the sky and earth.)

Therefore, although we aim to provide you with information that will help you understand and become a more sophisticated 'consumer' of legal services, we have no responsibility or control whatsoever about what happens between you and the lawyer. Ultimately, if the lawyer gives you bad advice or is not as good as they say they are, for example, we can't be held responsible or liable in any way (but you can give the lawyer a bad rating on our site, to warn others not to use them).

Legally Direct is provided to you free and "as is", which means that we do not provide any warranty, guarantee or other promises to you regarding Legally Direct and its functioning. It is your responsibility, for example, to safeguard your identity or confidentiality, if this is important to you, by not sharing details on Legally Direct that would allow others to identify you.

In short, by continuing to use this website, you agree with all of the above and that you can't and won't turn around and sue us for anything in future.

We may slightly modify these terms from time to time, and you agree to be bound by any changes. But we will make sure we tell you by email about any really important changes you need to know about.
