Delhi HC justices Kait, Vaish, Shakdher, Valmiki Mehta transferred out to other high courts

The Supreme Court collegium has transferred four Delhi high court judges to other high courts.

The Times of India reported today that according to its sources, the President had approved that the following Delhi high court judges will move:

- Justice Suresh Kait to the Andhra Pradesh high court,

- Justice VP Vaish to the Meghalaya high court,

- Justice Rajiv Shakdher to the Madras high court, and

- Justice Valmiki Mehta to the Gujarat high court.

The last time there was an en masse transfer of high court judges from Delhi without becoming chief justices was in 2010, when then-Chief Justice of India (CJI) SH Kapadia shuffled 20 high court judges between courts.

Except for Vaish, all three judges joined the bench from the bar.

After months of a mothballed collegium during the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) face-off with the executive, CJI TS Thakur has pushed appointments hard.

In February the collegium transferred four high court judges, making one chief justice, while in January , 7 high court judges were moved into chief justice positions.

The Times reported that according to an estimate 443 judge positions were vacant in 24 high courts.
