(Beer) case of the week (yet again): 'Godfather' beer hurts every religious sentiment, argues PIL

A PIL was on Friday moved in the Delhi high court seeking to restrain manufacture, supply and sale of 'Godfather' beer in the national capital, saying that it hurt religious sentiments.

The plea by [civic organisation Jan Chetna Manch president Devinder Singh] has submitted that "sentiments and emotions" of the public at large of every religion would be affected as the word 'God' is used by everyone to refer to the "almighty power"...

reported PTI.

The petition, filed by advocate AP Singh on behalf of an NGO, reportedly alleged:

The Godfather (beer) manufacturers are against humanity and the principle of natural justice as they are intentionally harassing and damaging religious emotions.

The Godfather manufacturer should extend their apology to the people through two national English and Hindi newspapers in order to protect the sentiments and emotions of public at large.

Beer appears to be a popular target for religion-themed PILs: in January 2015, a consumer activist filed a petition against US-made Gandhi-Bot beer, the availability of which was questionable in India, claiming the beer company's use of Mahatma Gandhi's picture insulted his memory.

That too was a Legally India case of the week.
