The Bar Council of India (BCI) chairman Manan Kumar Mishra will deduct one day’s salary from BCI staff “below the rank of assistant secretary” and “sweepers or other outsourced employees” who are caught using lifts at the BCI’s Rouse Avenue office in Delhi.
Outsiders “below 50 years of age” who were not “Learned Advocates & Hon’ble Judges” or “”not unwell or disabled”, “may be required to pay a sum of Rs. 50/- for us of lift”, according to the notice.
“Sweepers and outsourced employees” using the lift would have one day’s salary deducted, while staff members below the rank of assistant secretary would be marked absent for the entire day they dared take a trip on the lift.
The notice has begun going viral, after having been posted on Facebook and Twitter.

Bar Council of India, ladies and gentlemen. Don't know where they find moral authority to defend the constitution.

What appalling, filthy nonsense is this. The BCI Chairman should be SACKED at once. Sickening.

Does the sweeper's air pollute the holy halo of the BCI chairman? He should protect it further, sit at home.

Dear BCI Withdraw this notice, apologize and spare us the embarrassment.

So the BCI's top two priorities: 1) Whether girls wear shorts in college. 2) Whether workers and sweepers use the lifts in Courts

Ah the building lift. That great, daily, unspoken refuge of Indian classism.
Other users were less parliamentary in their language.

Mishra did not respond to an email seeking comment on the order.
The BCI has a good track record in arbitrary decision making
He, however, earlier this week did respond to an email from us seeking comment on another news item of the BCI’s arbitrary policies, which we have published along with a contest: draft a suitable reply and we will publish it on Legally India, send it to Mishra anonymously and you will win a year’s subscription to the top tier of Legally India premium subscriber programme.

"He, however, earlier this week respond to an email"
BCI is headed by buffoons of the highest order. Are they really so jobless? Might as well learn grammar and structuring this summer.
Shane on them- and those idiots who support them.
They are further from the nobility of the profession than they think themselves to be learned.
A Beacon of light has a purpose- to guide people in the darkness. With this latest act, they have shown that they are nothing but a fused bulb - one that needs to be thrown in the trash and replaced by more effective sources of light (read as wisdom).
Please- Mr. Foreigner (still cant stop laughing on that one!) - You must keep at this tirade against them. Maybe call #arnabgoswami - This is just the thing that will grind his gears and put these guys through the grind. I foresee an empty chair on his show.
Ps I hope I got the BCI lingo right.
Now coming to the cherry on top. I was returning from a smoke break, got in the lift, and my lift stopped at the floor of the tribunal, suddenly the peon carrying a suitcase of the chairman enters, along with the chairman, now not to look awkward and not to cause body contact and incovenience to his lordship I didn't get out of the lift. The lift button is pressed, its going down, I say hello, nice working here, yada yada.
Next day, one of the junior member calls me into his office and asks me "Who do you think you are? Tumhaari aukaat kya hain?" I was shocked. I ask him, man whats up with you? He says, do you know you're not to be present in the lift when them lordships are in them? Blah Blah, goes on for half an hour.
Well that's Indian feudal system right there for you.
