Faculty is temporary. Infrastructure is permanent.

Nalsar's faculty can improve. Nujs has too small a campus for any infrastructural development.

Now u knw who is better

I never commented about the "ROCKING" aspect of your college or Hostel life, my dear friend..I am sure you do and so do we..
I merely said that the Hostels have glitches.. 500+ students crammed up in just 2 hostels just gets claustrophobic..I felt this too while I was there.. and how big do you think your single rooms are, I have seen them too..

If college means just having fun, i suggest you should contemplate joining a DU college..

you need to pass out with knowledge then think differently..
Like I said, even we have fun here too, just because we are not in the center of the city does not mean we study 24X7..

Well, you never commented on the 'ROCKING' aspect of NUJS's hostel life...but someone else, who has lived more than ummm 22 days? surely can. Right?

Claustrophobic...oh! really!ha! with the lovely salt lake city around? Don't kid me!

And I heard one guy from NALSAR's cricket team say this about tis '50 acre campus'..."sookha ghaas hai saara"...(its all dry grass...dessert)

Now please don't get me wrong...my own preferences read NLSIU-NALSAR-NUJS....and I think it should be for everyone else...but making derogatory remarks on the size of NUJS's campus is something I cannot digest.

And a small campus does have its benefits...you can go to the library or the gym whenever you want...and on a day when you slept for long...just dash off to the college ...

And for sports and atheletics NUJS recently got a 'formal' tieup with the Sports authority of India (which is just accross the road)...so no worries on that front too.

Finally, a small campus might restraint NUJS's further infrastructural growth...but I hear talks about acquiring some land...so lets see.

NUJS v NALSAR - the rivalry is as old as the colleges themselves. And it's all in good spirit.

At the outset - I study at NUJS and I chose NUJS over NALSAR.

1. Infrastructure
It would be a shame for anyone to rely on a few comments here and fall prey to this misconception that NUJS's infrastructure is "incomparable" to the other law schools.

NUJS fares pretty well when compared, in general, to other universities. It's true that the campus is spread over some 5 acres, but that's only because 5 acres in this part of the world is more than sufficient for all our needs. The fact is, add to that an entire Sports Authority of India complex and a stadium which are right next door, the market areas, the hang-out places, a bank, other relevant places, etc - the only things that you would need a campus for are (a) the hostels and (b) the academic building.

So, if you ask me - with all these facilities RIGHT around the campus, is 5 acres "too small" an area for a national law school? I would, without any hesitation, tell you - No, it's not. It's big.

Do we "feel" a space crunch here? No, we don't. We have a well-planned and spacious city around us, and every god-damn thing that we may need. Infrastructure wise, NUJS is surely not "behind" any other law school. In fact, I think it's one of the more pleasant campuses I have set foot on.

However, at the same time, the authorities have been chalking out plans to acquire some more land in anticipation of the future needs of the University. The word around is that the land would in most likelihood be utilized for an even bigger library (the current library is pretty huge and well equipped) and accommodation.

2. The Girls' Hostel
Two of the current batches have a rather skewed sex-ratio. This is partly because the University's intake, which as of today stands at around 120, was not always this high. Besides, many students (like in the girls hostel earlier, and the boys hostel still) have had the luxury of residing in double rooms by themselves. Therefore, in light of the incoming batch's strength, a temporary re-arrangement was required. But like someone posting earlier commented - all that seems to have been sorted out.

3. The Quality of the Hostels
I've stayed in hostels before, but the NUJS halls of residence are probably the most entertaining / fun hostels I have been in. At the end of the day, rinsing your plate with water is hardly any reason to base ANY college application on. Pretty much everything at NUJS is student-run. At the end of the day, the choice is up to us - we choose whatever we do. From my two and a half years at the university, I believe my hostel life has given me the independence and the responsibilities that I would expect to be a part of the experience. That aside, the food in the mess is pretty good, the hostel staff are extremely friendly and the overall amenities are good.

4. The Academics
Someone posted - "faculty is temporary."
The truth is, building a good faculty is a difficult proposition. It is something which requires years of effort and perhaps THE most important consideration while determining a students choice of law school. If you had the opportunity of studying under some fabulous teachers, washing your plate after lunch hardly seems like an issue.

5. The Mooting
NALSAR's performance this year has been quite enviable. Frankly, I'm very disappointed by where NUJS stands in the moot rankings this year. But.

Mooting's been bad for NUJS this year. But that's just one year. I could write a whole new post on this altogether. Instead, all I'll say is - Watch out for us next year!

Overall, life is good here, academics are good too. If anything, NUJS offers more options to us - we go to the library not because we have nothing else to do, but because a better faculty inspires us to. When not, oh, there's just too much to do!
