6 months, 3 weeks ago Recruitments @ Law firms #450
Dear Friends, It is often heard by great law firm Partners that scope of law is booming, law firms are lacking corporate lawyers, demand for lawyers is much more than supply etc. etc. But when it comes to applying, hardly positive reply comes. Can anyone give the contact details (email or phone no.) of concerned person for recruitment in firms like Kochhar, Tatva legal, Dua Associates, Vaish, Udwadia and Udeshi, Talwar and Thakore, Gagrats, and other tier II law firms of the country????

Hi Pankaj, Although the average size of Indian law firms has grown in the past decade, the number of lawyers graduating every year is certainly more than the increase in demand. Recruitment depends on a number of factors, besides 'demand' - such as level of experience, practice group, educational background, individual skills and abilities and your personal network. So, it may be that you are not applying for the right positions in the right firms.. wouldn't be able to comment without knowing your background. As regards contact details - call up the firms on their board line and ask if there is an HR person or if there is a partner who is in charge of recruitment. If you are connected with the HR, briefly mention your experience and background and if you think suitable ask if they have a position for someone like you. I understand that most firms wouldn't give you so much time and you would have to email your resume to the HR. A follow up call / email should help. For telephone numbers of these firms, visit legal500.com or Chambers and Partners. Good luck!

Thanks Trinity four your inputs. I do understand that recruitment depenes on number of factors. What I have experienced in my college days that, beside luck, the brand value and references counts a lot. It is the fact that students from tier 2 colleges are also up to the mark and some are even better than many students of Tier 1 colleges. Even though it is unfortunate for them that they don't even get a chance to prove their skills. My concern is that they should also be given at least a chance to prove their ability, if not through interview, then by way of assigning them work like research, article etc. thereafter on that basis they can very well scrutinize the capable students. Legal 500 does not contain contact details of all the firms. If you know the contact of right person then please do favour me. Anyway thanks.

Hi Pankaj, I agree that everyone doesn't get the same opportunities when they start. But if you display your skills at whichever office you join I'm sure you will have a good chance of being noticed and can move up the hierarchy of firms. Do not get disheartened and concentrate on making your CV as strong as possible by writing and publishing articles, internships etc. You should get most of the firm's addresses and board line numbers by doing a simple search on google.
