The Bar Council of India (BCI) at its Saturday meeting did not set a date to conduct the fourth All India Bar Exam (AIBE) but it did decide on the members of a board that will oversee the AIBE.

BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said about Saturday’s BCI meeting that took place in Chandigarh: “We have constituted a board consisting of Supreme Court judges, high court judges, vice chancellors of national law schools and some other members comprising eminent advocates. They will take all these decisions.”

The BCI is also still to decide on a third party agency, if any, to which the contract to conduct the exam would be awarded.

The resolution from Saturday’s meeting was unavailable at the time of going to press.

The BCI had stated its intention to constitute such a bar examination board while addressing a press conference at Bar Council of India Bhawan New Delhi on Friday, as reported by Legally India.

The third AIBE was held on 8 January 2012 and had reported a pass rate of 63 per cent. The second AIBE was held on 24 July 2011 and the first AIBE ever was conducted on 6 March 2011.
