Trilegal, Shardul Amarchand bag $575m Alibaba-paytm investment with Simpsons

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has acted for the owners and existing investors of Paytm, including One97 Communications, which saw a $575m investment from Chinese e-commerce and internet behemoth Alibaba and its affiliate Ant Financial, which drafted in Trilegal in Mumbai.

The investment is one of the largest foreign investments in the e-commerce space, though Alibaba has also invested in Snapdeal, raising potential conflict issues according to some observers, reported Mint.

Shardul Amarchand partner Raghubir Menon, principal associate Ekta Gupta, and associates Taranjeet Singh and Aritra Roy acted for Paytm and One97.

Trilegal Mumbai partner Nishant Parikh, with counsel Rohan Ghosh Roy and senior associate Harsh Jain acted for Alibaba and Ant Financial on the Indian side.

Simpson Thatcher & Bartlett partner Katie Sudol and counsel Ian Ho acted as international legal counsel for Alibaba.
