BCI to discuss ML Sharma & AP Singh statements tonight (again)

The Bar Council of India (BCI) is likely to meet this evening over the controversial remarks made by two defence advocates in the BBC documentary about the December 2012 gang-rape.

“The meeting will take place late evening in Delhi to decide further course of action on the matter,” BCI chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said.

Defence counsel ML Sharma and AP Singh have made made several controversial statements in the documentary.

The BCI had issued notice to AP Singh over his remark on the rape victim in September 2013, which is still pending. Mishra did not respond to an email yesterday seeking comment on the status of the previous show-cause notice.

The documentary is about the gang rape of a 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist, who was brutally assaulted on December 16, 2012 on a moving bus in Delhi. Severely injured by the brutal assault, the woman was shifted for specialised treatment to a Singapore hospital where she died on December 29, 2012.
