After GLC Mumbai cancels, Sastra University picks up baton to conduct Nani Palkhivala tax moots

After GLC Mumbai discontinued holding the Nani Palkhiavala Memorial National Tax Moot Court Competition this year, Sastra University’s school of law will take over and hold the moot in 2015.

Sastra dean Dr S Vaidhyasubramaniam said: “We saw that [GLC] are cancelling it, and then spoke to Berham Palkhiwala and the [Nani A Palkhivala Memorial] Trust finally permitted us.”

He said that the moot would most likely take place after the budget in 2015, around the end of March or early April.

“It is a very prestigious moot,” he said. “Our jury will be prepared by some of the best. I 'm also very passionate about the law school and trying to do something good also for mooting.

The moot is a Tier 4 national challenger moot of the Mooting Premier League (MPL) season 6.

The Nani Palkhiwala Trust has also asked Sastra to conduct the Nani Palkhivala Memorial Elocution contest to encourage the art of public speaking amongst law students.

The college’s vice-chancellor Prof R Sethuraman said that he was pleased with the law school’s recent success of having broken into the top 10 of Legally India's Mooting Premier League after winning the Surana IT moot.
