Nuals gets Jamia Prof Rose Varghese as VC, will have to deal with financial irregularity allegations

Nuals Kochi has selected Jamia Milia Islamia professor Dr Rose Varghese as its new vice chancellor (VC), reported Live Law. The law school confirmed that Varghese would assume the VC’s office next week, while the search committee for the selection of the registrar is still in process.

Varghese enrolled as an advocate in the Kerala high court in 1976 and practiced until 1983, after which she had teaching stints at the Andhra Christian College of Law, NLSIU Bangalore and Jamia. She joined Jamia as an associate professor in 1994 and was made professor in 2008. She was also associated with the Independent Bureau for Humanitarian Issues, Geneva as deputy director and with the National Commission for Women as a consultant.

She obtained her LLB from the University of Kerala, LLM from Cochin University, M.Phil from NLSIU Bangalore in 1993 and PhD from the Delhi University in 2008.

Dr Sheena Shukoor, who was acting as Nuals’ VC before Varghese, had made allegations of financial mismanagement at the university and asked for its inspection.
