Delhi University law fac pleads, tries to re-build bridges with BCI, which doesn’t want students to suffer over derecognition

The Delhi University’s law faculty dean has written a letter pleading with the Bar Council of India (BCI), which has derecognised the college and barred its graduates from becoming advocates, as reported yesterday.

The letter by the dean and law faculty head, Professor Ashwani Kumar Bansal (published in full below, via Live Law), stated:

Please note that I as a Head and Dean, Faculty of law and my superior officers PVC and VC are seized of the matter and are contemplating all steps suggested  by you including application for affiliation by December 31, 2014. […]

I assure you that we will take up all the remedial measures and we will fully cooperate with the Bar Council of India in upkeeping the standards of legal education. I would also add that you should use more experts and teachers in various activities in Bar Council of India.

I by this letter request you to revise the advice to State Bar Councils and withdraw the non-eligibility directive for enrolment as an Advocate from 2013-14 urgently and continue with registration as advocate all the pass out LLB students from DU. I assure you that we will come back to you for affiliation and inspection in near future.

The Times of India reported that BCI chairman Biri Singh Sinsinwar said that while the university was to blame for the situation, he added: “We don't want the students to suffer. Therefore it is necessary to know about the infrastructure, library, faculty and other facilities of the law institution.”
