Economic Laws Practice (ELP) has opened up in Chennai, adding a sixth office to its national presence as was announced in August. The firm will start with focussing on its tax and litigation practice in Chennai.
ELP Mumbai tax partner Nishant Shah and Chennai-based associate partner Karthik Sundaram will head the Chennai office for which, Shah said, the firm has locally hired a team of four lawyers.
Shah, who advises on direct and indirect tax with a special focus on SEZs, commented: “We had some clients based in Chennai. We set up a local office, one, to cater to them and also to grow our client base.”
He told Legally India that the office’s location at Nungambakkam High Road was picked up “a few months back”.
Shah also heads ELP’s Bangalore office which the firm opened up in August.
ELP managing partner Rohan Shah stated in a press release: “ELP has long had quality clients in Chennai who have recurrently suggested we set up an office in Chennai. This office has been opened in response to those requests and the huge upsurge in quality legal work in Chennai. At a time where there is renewed investment belief in India, we are delighted that we have an all-India network of six offices with quality lawyers in all of the centres which are important to the investment process.”
