Lakshmikumaran adds 9th office, opens in Chandigarh following tax bench, local clients

Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS) opened up in Chandigarh on 1 April – adding the firm’s ninth regional presence close on the heels of the opening of a new Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) bench in the city.

LKS Delhi executive partner Seetharaman S said: “The clients in Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and maybe Himachal normally have to come to us here in Delhi. It becomes easier for those clients [to visit the Chandigarh office instead].”

Delhi tax partner RK Hasija will head the Chandigarh office, but is not yet relocating to the city.

Seetharaman told Legally India that one lawyer from Chandigarh and around five lawyers relocated from the firm’s Delhi office will be at the office in Chandigarh. It is understood that the firm is currently in the process of relocating the team from Delhi.

He said that the new office will currently be run by a team of direct tax and indirect tax experts.

LKS last opened up its second office in Delhi in March 2012 and moved to a new office in Bangalore in June 2012.

In April the firm’s tax partner of 28 years Madhav Rao moved to BMR Legal as a partner.
