KIIT Law School Bhubaneshwar opened its Mooting Premier League (MPL) 4 account after winning the sixth Edition of the Bodh Raj Sawhney Moot Court Competition at Nalsar Hyderabad against RGNUL Patiala.
KIIT won 10 points in the fourth MPL, which is sponsored by Herbert Smith Freehills.
This year’s competition from 28 to 30 September saw the participation of 37 law schools from within the country. The winning team comprised of oralists Krishna Rao and Komal Mundhra, and researcher Nidhi Singla.
Singla stressed the importance of their win as they were considered to have been underdogs throughout the tournament. “It was a very good experience overall, but the judges and the participants hardly recognised our presence, but we went with the intention of doing our best and didn’t really bother about reputation,” she said.
On the quality of the judging, she said: “We faced minor issues in the beginning but other than that the quality of judging was very good and uniform throughout.”
The bench consisted of Nalsar alumni for the prelims, high court lawyers for the quarters and semis, and the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh Justice for the finals.

When asked about the toughest team they had to face, the winning team praised the runners-up as their strongest opponents in the competition. “The RGNUL team were very good,” said Singla. “Their memorial was exceptional and well researched and they challenged us in the finals, but in the end I’m glad we were able to pull it off.”
The award for the best speaker went to Yashaswi Kant from NUJS Kolkata and the team from NLU Orissa bagged the award for the best memorial.
NLU Jodhpur and Campus Law Centre Delhi lost in the semi-finals.
With this victory KIIT entered the Mooting Premier League (MPL) at 9th position, ahead of RGNUL Patiala which has added 5 points to its tally to move up to 10th place in the points table.
Other new entrants to the points table are NLU-O at 14th place Campus Law Centre, Delhi at 20, and NALSAR, Hyderabad at 21 with its first point this season for organising the competition.

As a clat aspirant, I wanted to know if it's advisable to join NALSAR? Jindal from non-N school options seems extremely attractive, should I join that over NALSAR?
(*This is an objective opinion and a suggestion for consideration and I must make it clear that I have a vested interest since I coached the NLU-Delhi team that won the India Rounds as well as the Regionals.)

Get with the programme and make sure you like the MPL page for future updates. :)
Full story on LI to follow soon.
Best wishes,
Kian
Ps: I agree with you, Facebook is hell.
Plz let us know about the Amity moot too Kian.
Amity Delhi is part of the MPL - I think that'll happen in 2013 some time...
When you can have moots like Surana Trial Adovcacy 9North India) rounds wherein only 12 teams participate as this was the participation tally last year, why you don't include moots like Amity wherein many big personalities were there as judges. And the competition being cut throat.
It was the second edition. And It is a Tier 4 moot, actually. 30 teams participated. Last year it was won by NALSAR. This year by SLS Pune. The colleges participating included-
RGNLU, GNLU, SLS, HNLU, NUJS, NLU-O, GLC, JGLS, Jamia etc.
There were 4 other teams who had registered apart from the 30 teams participating but they did not show up on the day of the competition.
I think it should be included in MPL from this time. The judges included militray personnels of the rank of Brigadier, Colonel, Major General right from the first round with Senior Advocate Pinky Anand judging in prelims. Finals was judged by 5 judge Bench with Brig. General Peter Spjik, Head, International Society of Military Law and Law of War being one of the five judges.
The judges had senior rank military officials right from the prelims that includes Brigadier, Colonel, Major General and other senior ranks along with judges like Senior Advocate Pinky Anand for the prelims. Finals had 5 judges bench, with one being Brig. Gen. Spjik who is the President, International Society of Military Law and law of War.
LI should include this moot which got over few days back.
There were many more reputed names. Justice Katju, ASG Parasaran and Sr. Adv. Ravi Shankar Prasad were there in Valedictory function.
Hope you would consider the advice as moot seems to be a tough one with participation from reputed NLUs and other colleges. With MPL4 being started, this moot deserves a place in the Tier 4 or Tier 5. Go ahead LI team and include it in MPL4!
When regional moots can be there in Tier 3 and 5, why moots which seek participation from across be India be not included in MPL4.
Its a serious question if moot where only 12 teams participate is there in Tier 5 in MPL and moots like Amity, NALSAR-Tulsi where competition is lot more tougher is not even included in MPL. LI team, its time to include moots for you in this new 4th season!!
