Fox Mandal files winding up against Essel Sports in BHC opposite ALMT

Breaking: Fox Mandal advised nine international cricketers who yesterday filed in the Bombay high court to liquidate ALMT Legal-advised Essel Sports (ESPL), the sports-entertainment wing of business conglomerate Essel Group.

ESPL runs the Indian Cricket League tournament.

Fox Mandal Mumbai partner Nahush P Shah, and Bangalore partner Santosh Singh with counsel Pooja Patil acted for the petitioner cricketers.

Cricketers Nic Boje, Corey John Bocking, Stephen M Patridge, Ian Joseph Harvey, Shane Andrew Duff, Stephen John Rixon, Andrew Ross Nealon, Jason Neil Gillespie and Andrew James Hall filed for ESPL’s winding-up, claiming what are understood to be sizeable outstanding dues from the company.

Shah had joined Fox Mandal’s new Mumbai office from Little & Co in April, according to legal website Bar & Bench.

ALMT Legal Mumbai partner Hitesh Jain with senior counsel Pradeep Sancheti acted for Essel Sports, which disputed the cricketers’ claims for dues and counter-claimed that the players had breached their contract with the company.

The matter is now listed for hearing tomorrow, and it is understood that the court will decide whether the disputes will go into arbitration.
