Chennai writ: Under construction for one-and-a-half more months?

The Madras High Court today adjourned the A K Balaji writ against 31 foreign law firms to 22 September for final hearing and disposal of the case as the Bar Council of India (BCI) filed its reply in favour of the petitioners.

The case was taken up today after having been heard last on 19 April 2011 due to ongoing consultations between the government respondents for policy formulations on the matter.

The writ petitioner Balaji told Legally India: “The BCI has also filed a counter in favour of us and the matter is posted for final hearing and would be disposed of on 22 September. We asked for injunction only and the central government has to tell their stand on the matter. The judges decided that injunction will be taken up during the final hearing only.”

“Four to five senior counsels appeared today on behalf of the foreign firms but no documents or written statements were filed by them,” he added.
