Symbiosis Law School, Pune in association with the Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Trust, Mumbai, hosted the Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Elocution Contest, 2010-11 at inter-college level for the students of law last weekend.
Five colleges from Pune and nearby areas participated in the contest which was won by Govind from BVU New Law College. He received Rs 5,000 as prize money. Manav Thomas from ILS College and Avinash Amarnath from Symbiosis Law School bagged the second (Rs 3,000) and third (Rs 2,000) prizes respectively.
The contest was judged by Justice Sudhakar Hartalkar, Additional & Session Court Judge (Retd.), Justice Shrikrishna Bhagawan Panse, Principal District & Session Judge (Retd.) and Dr. Durangambini Patel (Reader, Department of law, University of Pune).
The topics given to the participants to speak on were:
a) Corruption in the Judiciary – Causes & Cure.
b) Tackling backlog of cases in Courts.
c) Judicial Activism.
d) Confrontation between Judiciary and the Executive.
Since 2008, Symbiosis Law School, Pune has been hosting this competition in collaboration with the Nani A. Palkhivala Memorial Trust, Mumbai.
