Exclusive: The Chattisgarh High Court has appointed former professor of law of Banaras Hindu University Dr Sukhpal Singh as the new vice chancellor (VC) of HNLU Raipur, following last month’s unexpected departure of its former VC.
Sukhpal Singh was appointed on 5 March based on the recommendation of a search committee, according to a university official and a student. HNLU associate professor Dr Anand Pawar, who is currently serving as the vice chancellor, would hand over the reigns to Sukhpal Singh who is yet to take charge of the office.
Chief justice Rajiv Gupta exercised his powers under section 8(2) of the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chattisgarh Act to appoint Sukhpal Singh.
He replaced Paramjit Singh Jaswal, who left as HNLU VC on 2 February moving to RGNUL Patiala for personal reasons after less than three months in the job.
