A team from National Law University (NLU), Jodhpur has won the North India rounds of the Stetson Environmental Law Moot, beating Amity Law School IP University Delhi.Both teams have now qualifed to the Florida Stetson University world finals in March 2010, together with the winners of Stetson South India - KLA, Thiruvanthapuram and New Law College, Bharti Vidyapeeth.
The winning NLU Jodhpur team comprised of Kartikeya Mahajan, Meha Rashmi, Aman Bhattacharya, Silpa Nair and Soumya Patnaik.
The victory and the award of best memorial to NLU Jodhpur, propels the school to fifth place in the mooting premier league table from joint twelfth.
Avni Bansal from Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU) Raipur won the best orator prize, securing HNLU's entry at the bottom of the table.
The Stetson North India rounds were organized by NLIU Bhopal.
Co-convenor of the NLIU Bhopal moot court committee Tanuj Hazari said: "This was the second major moot other than the NLIU Tankha moots organized by NLIU in a span of one month."
As in Stetson's South India rounds, the moot problem for the competition concerned marine mammals and ocean noise.
The winners and runners-up of Stetson's North and South India rounds have qualified for the Stetson World Finals which will be held in Stetson University, Florida, USA between 11 and 14 March 2010.

The next moot competition on the Mooting Premier League line-up is the 6th Nani Palkhiwala National Tax Moot Court Competition, which is organised by Government Law College, Mumbai from 3 to 5 December 2009.
We have also updated the league table with the confirmed best memorial win of University Law College, Bangalore in the NLU Delhi Corporate Law Moot Court Competition.
We are also confirming the results of Surana Trial Advocacy North rounds and will update the tables shortly.

Its good to see NLU winning the competition...this time round Amity and SOE seem to have come to the fray very strongly,,one other law school which has shown really good promise in mooting is Army Law Institute, Mohali, just that they have been a bit unlucky in the penultimate rounds...!!!

Best Speaker: Avni Bansal, HNLU Raipur
Second Best Speaker: Debajyoti Das, HNLU Raipur [Edit: typo in name corrected, thanks]

hey...my team stood third in stetson north rounds and we won the 2nd best memorial...we jautlost the semis to NLU JODHPUR by very narrow margin...hope to win it next year....

hi i m chandan 4m CNLU..i was in d team as a mooter we did well but unfortunately we lost....CNLU...NLU JODHPUR..NLU DELHI AND AMITY LAW SCHOOL were in the semis....CNLU PATNA won the 2nd best memorial...

@justdoubt: no ,hnlu speakers just stole the show....avani bansal won th best speaker and debajyoti das won th second best speaker...both frm hnlu....kartikey frm jodhpur ws th third best speaker....jst tht hnlu had a bit of hard luck....thy faced jodhpur in th prelimns as well as quaters....in th prelimns hnlu had th highest score of all th teams......a frakin 975...jodhpur had the second highest score 940... in th quaters one judge marked hnlu higher nd th other marked jodhpur higher.....hnlu ws stll th second highest scorin team....jst tht it ws a knock out round, so tough luck for hnlu ths time

As i read dis post..i felt dat comments frm cnlu shd also b here...den i saw comments frm my mooter :).......yup we lost by a narrow margin in both cases b it d best memorial or d best team..hope cnlu achieves it next year! :)

@ guneet: i just wish that u had watched the proceedings clearly. Kartikey mahajan of NLU jodhpur did win the Best Speaker award. However such best speaker award was for the Finals. In prelims he was 3rd best. so Cheers NLU, Jodhpur

NLU,J has won quite a few other moots this year FYI. NLU was runners-up in the commonwealth moot, 11th (or was it 13th) in Jessop (or was that last year? Not sure) along with few other moots.
Then again, our dear VC has restricted the number of moots which we can attend to only 25 in a year for the whole of the college! Apparently we were getting distracted from 'academics'!

And...the best memo in the NALSAR moot was awarded to NLU,J. Having had seen the trophy in my neighbors room, I am quite confident that this is an error.

Two of the NLU Speakers did win best speaker awards as well. Kartikey Mahajan won the 3rd best speaker award and Meha Rashmi won the 4th best speaker award. However, it was unfortunate that they could not win the best speaker award as kartikey mahajan was by far the best speaker of the competition. u should have seen him moot and u wud have realised what mooting is all about.
anyways the point is since the competition has awards upton 4 best speakers, then points should be given for all awards. there is no point giving points to only the first best speaker as the competition itself provides for awards for top 4.
same goes for the memos
u can have separate points for such awards.......but points should be there as people earned it.

@Simran: we do understand your point and also the fact that the speakers from NLUJ and it is evident from the fact that they won the rounds. But the best speaker was awarded to someone else and we can do nothing about that. As per the MPL rules of LegallyIndia which has been created after consulting the Committee of the major law schools and edited after the comments of the readers, we award points only for the best orator and best memorial and not to the second best, third best and onwards. We are awarding points for honourable mention for some of the international moots, but it is just not possible for the national moots and qualifying rounds. Also it would not be fair since not all the national moot courts award 3rd and 4th best speaker. I guess NLUJ is performing really well in the MPL and with some more wins like stetson north, it would be at the top. Best of luck to your univ for BCI and stetson world rounds.
