The alt-rock band Blacklisted from Chennai won NLSIU Bangalore's Strawberry Fields music festival yesterday, defeating four other bands from Chennai and Bangalore.

Blacklisted have a bluesy, heavy rock sound and list Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and Audioslave as their influences.

NLSIU student Sanjit has co-organised the music festival for the past three years and enthused: "It was absolutely unbelievable!"

He added: "The finalists as well as the headliners Inner Sanctum and Parikrama were outstanding performances."

Blacklisted won against the melodic death metal band Armour of God from Chennai, and rock bands Bicycle Days, The Bridge and Solder from Bangalore.

The festival started on Friday (20 November) with over 50 bands competing.

Sanjit said: "We had a good mix of different music - funk, hard rock and we have metal bands as well."

Strawberry Fields final kicked off with the Bangalore death metal opening act Inner Sanctum.

Each of the finalists then played for half-an-hour each, concluding at 10pm with the headliner rock band Parikrama.
